4 ways to make your social media ready for Christmas

Today’s guest post comes from Steph of High Weald Marketing, who asked to share with us 4 ways to make your social media ready for Christmas shopping season. Let’s get into it…

The countdown to Christmas

As I wave goodbye to the long Summer evenings, and turn to thinking about leaves falling off the trees and whether or not I need to wear a coat, I also find my mind drifting towards thinking about Christmas.

Like it or not, it's now fewer than 75 days until the big day. It might feel odd to be talking about Christmas before we've had Halloween or changed the clocks, but a time that feels festive and cosy to some, can be very overwhelming to others.

In this blog, I'll cover some reasons why you need to get started on your Christmas social media now.

Introducing High Weald Marketing

Before we get started, let me introduce myself. I'm Steph and I live in Tunbridge Wells, Kent with my long-suffering husband and very over-excited toddler. I run High Weald Marketing and specialise in supporting the wonderful array of creative businesses around Kent and Sussex. I have found myself drawing many comparisons between marketing and motherhood, including the fact that both of them require you to be 'always on'. Switching off from your business, when it's your pride and joy that you've built up from scratch, can feel a tall order but these tips will allow your social media at least to be ready for when your audience is, even if you're elsewhere.

4 ways to make your social media ready for Christmas

🕰️ Take some time to research key dates that are relevant to your business, along with making sure that your website and shop are up to date.

📆 Create an Excel spreadsheet calendar for the festive season with any awareness dates you've come across along with a note about which platform/group you're going to post on.

🎁 Create some relationship-building posts, along with sales content, such as asking questions about your audience's must-have Christmas dinner trimming or whether they've got their Christmas jumper yet. Marketers often talk about the 80/20 rule - the former being the percentage of relationship-building content and the latter the sales posts.

💻 You've now got plenty of ideas for content, but where should you put it all? Block out some time in your schedule to focus on scheduling this content. There are plenty of places you can do this for free - Meta Business Manager and Buffer are just some of the examples of platforms that offer this.

It would be remiss of me to not mention my own Christmas offering! I have had some beautiful gift vouchers created, designed by a fellow local mother, and they come in digital or physical formats. You can see them over on my Instagram here and Facebook here
