Five unique ideas for self-care in Glasgow

I definitely prefer treating myself to an experience over buying ‘stuff’. And when it’s tricky to fit in self-care, I find that having a booked appointment will mean that I don’t overlook it and it does happen (more tips on making time for self-care here). I also love making memories, so finding some unique and quirky self-care experiences are right up my street. Here are 5 that I found in Glasgow:

Hotpod yoga

I went along to a Hotpod yoga class last week and really enjoyed it. Unlike hot yoga, the pod was heated but it wasn’t unbearably warm. It was pleasant, and very relaxing. The class I attended was for all levels, and as a newbie to yoga I was able to keep up. My favourite was the savasana (corpse pose) at the end - I could have quite happily stayed lying in the pod for ages! The pod was quite the sensory experience; it was reasonably dark and there was some music playing as well as a scented humidifier. Definitely something different to try! For £15 you can get a 10 day pass if you are new to the studio.

Salt cave

I’m yet to visit a salt cave, but keen to do so and it’s on my List of 100 Dreams! There is one in East Kilbride, and it looks really interesting! It’s anti-inflammatory, can give your immune system a boost and seemingly can boost your energy too. So I thought it might be beneficial for my Crohn’s Disease perhaps, as well as being a relaxing experience. It’s also something that you can do as a family, so if you have kids it’s an experience you could try with them. It’s £30 for 1 parent and 2 kids for a group session. Watch this space, and I’ll report back when I make the trip.

Floatation tank

Last year I visited Thrive Float in East Kilbride to have a session in their Epsom salt float-pod and really enjoyed it. If you visit with a friend, you can benefit from a discount for 2 people… but don’t worry you don’t share a pod! You have your experience at the same time, but in different rooms. You don’t need to bring anything to the appointment other than yourself; they have towels, shampoo, hairdryer etc there. And to get the best benefits you’re supposed to float naked, so no swimming suit needed unless you want to. I wasn’t sure if I’d find it too claustrophobic, as I struggle with small spaces, but it was actually ok. To get the full experience, you do want to lower the lid of the pod and I managed to do this without freaking out!

Sound bath

reiki love club in Glasgow

I’ve been to a couple of sound baths at Reiki Love Club with founder Michelle, and it’s always been the most beautiful immersive experience. The space is just beautiful, and I felt very special throughout. From the angel card pull at the start, to the sound bath and reiki, to the herbal tea at the end… it was just lovely. I felt so light and happy afterwards. Michelle offers group sound baths as well as the individual sessions at her location in Clydebank. A few other places that I’ve had reiki are at White Rabbit Healing (review here) and with Medella Therapies.

Thermal suites at Blythswood Square Hotel Spa

This week I took myself along to Blythswood Square Hotel & Spa for a strategy day, with myself! I started in the lobby where I had a cup of tea in such stylish surroundings and checked in with my business goals and vision. Next was the thermal suites, and I had 2 hours to rotate around the various spaces… sauna, steam room, salt room, pool, jacuzzi and more. I skipped the snow room, but it looked interesting! I had booked myself in for a ishga Sound Therapy treatment, which comprised exfoliation, hot stone massage, facial and a hot oil head massage. There was a special musical composition playing in the background, which made the experience that little bit more wonderful. What was amazing was that when I allowed myself some space to just be, lots of great ideas came to me! After my treatment, I headed to the restaurant for a late lunch. And I whipped out my laptop to get all my ideas captured and into a tangible plan that I can execute for Q2. Check out the reel I made on Instagram of my day here.

Let me know in the comments if there are any other places you’d recommend in the area.
