1642 days

This is the number of days that I have been alcohol-free.

It all started on 1st January 2019, and at the time I didn’t realise that this was going to become a way of life for me. I was challenged to try 100 days sober by a good friend… and I achieved the 100 days, and then kept on going!

I didn't hit a rock bottom, or class myself as having an addiction to alcohol; I did however have a turning point (which you can read about here in an earlier blog post)… and it just so happened that this turning point happened right before I was challenged to 100 days sober. I suspect that if the order of events were different, then I probably would have done the 100 days and just returned to drinking again.

I’m grateful with how the story played out.

Goodbye hangovers

I still love the theatre of having a drink… the pretty glasses, the garnishes, the bright colours… and so I do enjoy a mocktail when I’m ‘out out’.

What I love the most is waking up the next morning, feeling fresh! I used to have debilitating hangovers from hell…. I hated them.

I am so much more productive than I have ever been, and I feel amazing for it too.

One of my 8 P’s of conscious time management is Plate, which is ‘mindful consumption’. This includes not only alcohol but also food, caffeine, media and also our use of technology. I think a lot of us know that alcohol can greatly impact our energy, mood and so on… but perhaps we’re not so aware of just how much a night out drinking at the weekend can impact the start of your working week. It’s not until I’d taken the break from it, that I realised just how much I benefited from not consuming it.

Fancy giving it a try? I’ve a good friend, Kirsty Mulcahy, who is a life coach working with people who are sober and sober curious. She has a fab workbook, “30 days aff it”, that gets great reviews. Kirsty is also the founder of Soberbuzz Scotland. I joined Soberbuzz Zoom calls at the start of my journey, and it was lovely to be in a safe space with other like-minded people.
